What's the Challenge?

The RIDE Challenge

Challenge your peers and competition to start a fundraising team to support people seeking hope, safety, and freedom. Businesses can challenge other businesses, Service Clubs other clubs, churches and faith groups other faith groups, and schools other schools. Challenge accepted?

Be a Challenge Partner

Challenge your people to start three or more teams and we will create a special mini-campaign page listing each of your teams, your organization's name, logo, and a description of why you are riding or walking. With each charity across Canada organizing their own Ride for Refuge, your regional or national organization can start multiple teams. Explore the List of Challengers to view the many who have accepted the challenge. Join them!

How It Works

Select a Challenge Category

Choose a challenge category when you register your team. Your team will join peers across the country in a shared category like Real Estate, or service clubs, scouts, police, faith groups, or many more.

Request a Campaign Page

When you register 3 or more teams, we will create a campaign page and provide other supports to help you and your organization plan and fundraise. As you add more than three teams, they will be automatically added to your page. Contact challenge@bluesea.org to build your organization's challenge page.

The Challenge One-Pager

Use the Challenge Brochure as a quick and easy way to explain the challenge to others. Of course, you can link them to these pages.

Check the Challenge Scoreboard

Follow the Challenge Scoreboard to see how you are tracking with your peers across the country.

Why do we need to recruit multiple teams to get our own page? Why can't we just have one big team?

  • More teams encourage more competition in fundraising, and that's the goal of the event!
  • There is greater accountability with smaller teams
  • Ideally, you'll recruit teams in more than one location
  • It will make your Corporate Challenge Partner page more interesting and increase your campaign buzz

Do I have to raise money for the charity in the location I am fundraising for or can I choose a different one?

Yes - you must raise money for the charity in the location where you're participating.

Some of our employees need to work on Saturdays, can they participate at a different time?

Yes! They would be riding or walking under the understanding that they would not have the support of our event leaders and volunteers, and must ensure that their fundraising is submitted to our offices. See our FAQ for more information.

Our company likes to volunteer - can we still participate in the challenge if we volunteer instead of ride or walk?

No - sorry! While we appreciate and need volunteers at every location, the corporate challenge is restricted to teams of fundraisers.

Our company has a matching grant program - do you accept matching grants?

Yes! We sure do. Try to get the ball rolling on any matching grants as early as possible, as sometimes these can take time to process. Matching grant cheques can be forwarded to Ride for Refuge, 260-659 King St. E., Kitchener, ON, N2G2M4.

Our company would like to sponsor the celebration meal/become a distance sponsor/sponsor in other ways, and ALSO have some teams in the event - can we do that?

You sure can. Contact your local Event Director (you can find this information on your location page) to talk about becoming a distance/event/goods & services sponsor.

How can I connect with the local charity in our city?

Contact your Event Director - details on your location page. Especially if you have multiple teams, encourage team captains to connect with the charity leader to learn about the charity and to snag some campaign posters, snowflakes, and buttons.

Do our three teams need to ride or walk in the same location?

No - your teams can participate at any of our RIDE locations from coast to coast!

Do all the members of my team have to be people from work or can I have family members and friends on my team?

It's fine to invite your family and friends to your company or organization’s team as long as they don’t mind being associated with you and your team. (If not, well, they can start another team!)

Where does the money go? Does it stay local?

The money each of your teams raises will go towards the charity they selected during registration - usually, this is the host charity in the city where they participated. You can see full details on how our financial model works here.

Does everyone on my team have to ride or walk the same distance?

No - participants select their distance individually when they sign up, and you can have participants selecting different distances all on the same team. It is more fun when you ride together, though!
