RIDE Day Details

Gear up - RIDE Day is September 30, 2017!

Ride or walk with us on September 30, 2017, in the Halifax Ride for Refuge, generously hosted and operated by Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.

Start/Finish

St. Margaret's Bay Rails To Trails (across the street from St. Luke's United Church).

You can park at

St. Luke's United Church,

5374 St. Margaret's Bay Road

Upper Tantallon,

then come on inside for Registration!

Now, head across the street (look both ways!) where you'll be sent off with a smile!

All event parking should be at the church - not the trail head or Bike & Bean. Washrooms for our use are at the church and the 2 farthest rest stops. Please don't use Bike & Bean as their septic tank cannot handle all of us.

Remember this is a public trail. Don't hog it! Stay to the right to let others pass. Give walkers notice of your approach--use your bike bell if you have one, otherwise, just holler "Hello!"

Times

Here's the schedule for the RIDE:

  • 9am - Registration Opens
  • 9:45am - Opening Ceremonies
  • 10am - RIDE begins (all distances)
  • 10:30am - WALK begins
  • 11am - Registration closes
  • 11:30am - Lunch service begins
  • 3pm - Lunch service ends
  • 3:30pm - Route closes

Yummy Food

We always have a great BBQ lunch for our riders and volunteers and welcome you to linger and enjoy. There are no guarantees of how much food will be left after 2:00pm. Please note we are NOT serving pork at the BBQ.

Warning: We are not able to accommodate for food sensitivities/allergies. If you have a dietary restriction, bring along some extra food/snacks. We can throw your veggie burger on the BBQ for you!

  • 10 km RIDE
  • 25 km RIDE
  • 50 km RIDE
  • 5 km WALK

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to view or print route maps

5km WALK--Not everyone has a bike, or a way to transport a bike. But almost all of us walk! Bring the family, and come out for a stroll along the beautiful St. Margaret's Bay Trail! Or, if you prefer, you can sprint the trail, Usain Bolt style!

10km--This shorter jaunt is for newbie riders, families with younger kids, and friends who recently had their knees replaced. You will have the FRUIT STOP, with fresh fruit and water!

25km--This is the main RIDE. The turnaround point is our Halfway Cafe, complete with porta-potty and look-off for the perfect selfie spot!

50km--The Psycho Cyclists Route. These brave riders will turn after spending a few minutes at our Tailgate Party Rest Stop!

All riders 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

What to Bring

  • a helmet (mandatory for all riders)
  • your bike (or walking shoes!)
  • warm layers with moisture repelling clothing if cold or windy--not likely in Nova Scotia, right?!
  • a cell phone for emergencies - recommended but not required
  • your My Results Form - downloaded from the fundraising portal
  • a signed copy of your Waiver Form (RIDERS / WALKERS 17 or under must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver form)
  • any cash - or cheques made out to "Ride for Refuge"
  • extra food or snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
  • a passion for the charity you're riding or walking for

September can be cool, with rain and wind. The weather might also be gorgeous and sunny. Be sure to keep your eye on the forecast.
