What to Bring

A few common sense suggestions:

  • A cell phone for emergencies (recommended but not required)
  • Your bike and helmet or walking shoes
  • Extra snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
  • Your own water bottle
  • Warm layers with moisture-repelling clothing. Early October weather can be cool, with rain and wind. The weather might also be gorgeous and sunny. So be sure to keep your eye on the forecast.
  • A passion for the charity you're walking and fundraising for!

Handling Money

  • Credit Card: The Best Option! Simple, secure, automatically tax receipted for gifts of $20+. Visit the Donate page, share your personal page link, or have your donor call the RIDE Head Office.
  • Cheques: The Old Faithful - made out to Ride for Refuge with your name on the Memo line. Mail them to RIDE Head Office along with your completed pledge form.
  • Cash: You have 2 options:
  • 1. Login to FundHub, click “Enter $$ and Cheques,” create pledges for your cash donations, pay them off with your personal credit card, and keep the cash. OR...
  • 2. Write a cheque (made out to “Ride for Refuge”) for the total amount of cash you’ve collected. Mail it to the RIDE Head Office with your completed pledge sheet.

About Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions

Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions (SMFC) is a local child, youth, and family services provider as well as a registered charity dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children, youth, and families in our community. Through fundraising and community partnerships, we work tirelessly on programs and services developed to fill gaps for the most vulnerable in our community.

Funds raised through our Ride for Refuge event will directly support our anti-human trafficking initiatives. Every day, we receive calls about local children, youth, and families being trafficked or at risk of being trafficked. Human trafficking targets primarily young adolescents, as young as 13 years old. These are traumatic offenses affecting the family down the street, your child’s classmate, and the teenager who attends high school around the corner. Through our anti-human trafficking initiatives, our goal is to ensure safety, stability, and a hopeful future for our friends and neighbors most at risk in our community.

Specifically, your Ride for Refuge contributions will provide:

- Safe Housing: Secure environments for victims and those at risk.

- Medical Treatment: Essential specialized healthcare services for recovery.

- Transportation Costs: Safe and reliable transportation for those in need.

- Technology: New cellphones and laptops for safe communication and connection to community resources.

- Branded Tattoo Cover-Ups: Helping victims reclaim their identities.

- Therapy: Professional counseling services to aid in healing.

- Community Training: Education for families, children, youth, and community partners to recognize and prevent human trafficking.

Join us in making a difference. Participate in the Ride for Refuge event to support our agency’s crucial anti-human trafficking work. Together, we can protect the vulnerable, educate our community, and provide hope for a brighter future. Register today, donate what you can, and spread the word. Your involvement is vital in ensuring the safety and well-being of children, youth, and families in our community.

Together, we can protect, prevent, and provide hope.
