About Reception House Waterloo Region

Reception House provides assistance to newly arrived refugees and newcomers in the Waterloo Region. We have welcomed and supported thousands of clients since 1987.

We are committed to helping newcomers settle successfully in the Waterloo Region by providing temporary accommodations, orientation to life in Canada, and access to health care. As our newest neighbours begin to integrate into the community, we support them in finding meaningful employment and accessing mental health services, essential steps in healing from loss and trauma.

Now, more than ever, we need your support to help us make health services more accessible to our clients. Waterloo Region is at its strongest when we come together to offer a warm welcome to those starting a new life here. And with help from people like you, we know we can ensure every refugee has an opportunity for successful resettlement.

Ride with us this fall in the Ride for Refuge and help build a community where every newcomer feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.

  • A cell phone for emergencies (recommended but not required)
  • Your bike and helmet or walking shoes
  • Extra snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
  • Your own water bottle
  • Warm layers with moisture-repelling clothing. Early October weather can be cool, with rain and wind. The weather might also be gorgeous and sunny. So be sure to keep your eye on the forecast.
