What to Bring
A few common sense suggestions:
- A cell phone for emergencies (recommended but not required)
- Your bike and helmet or walking shoes
- Extra snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
- Warm layers with moisture-repelling clothing. Late September weather can be cool, with rain and wind. The weather might also be gorgeous and sunny. So be sure to keep your eye on the forecast.
- A passion for the charity you're walking and fundraising for!

About Portal Youth Outreach
The Portal Youth Outreach Association provides access to a brighter future for youth in the Annapolis Valley. The Portal acts as a resource centre to youth and works to prevent and respond to youth who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. These youth, who are sometimes forgotten, are facing challenges such as relational breakdown, substance abuse & addictions, isolation, poverty, homelessness, literacy challenges, crime and street level risks, and work/education shortcomings. The Portal provides a safe place physically and emotionally for young people to secure basic needs of food, shelter, relationships and experience a sense of belonging so that they can take work through their trauma/ emotional needs and become independent. Each individual is accepted, regardless of their lifestyle, beliefs, age, race, gender, or social-economic status. The Portal's vision is that all youth in the Annapolis Valley have a safe, supportive and loving home.
